The Bascule Library

Plain-English guides to the things insurance jargon won't tell you.

Written by the people who actually underwrite the policies — not a content team in another building. Everything from mortality coverage to what a major-medical claim really pays for, in language you can read at 11pm in a barn aisle.

What you'll find here

Insurance can be complex. The guides exist to make it simple.

Every guide on this page is written or reviewed by a Bascule underwriter or claims adjuster — the same people who'd answer the phone if you called. No SEO filler, no recycled glossary entries. If a sentence isn't useful at the kitchen table or in front of a horse, we cut it.

We update them every month, mark the agent-only ones clearly, and tell you up front if a guide covers something we don't underwrite. The aim is for an owner to be able to read three of these and understand their policy as well as their agent does.

"The single biggest reason claims slow down is that nobody read the policy before the emergency. These guides exist so that doesn't happen to you."
